Sunday, March 12th marked the end of the Tenn/Tom Waterway as we approached Mobile, Alabama.
Mobile, from the water, is a very industrial city. We saw all kinds of cargo being loaded and unloaded, via barge and ship.
There’s also a very active shipbuilding industry in Mobile, including Navy ships and offshore supply vessels and platforms.
We passed two large containerized cargo ports as we approached Mobile Bay.
Interestingly, we saw our first dolphins of the trip just as we left the river and entered Mobile Bay, but didn’t see any more once we got out in the bay.
We spent the night at Dog River Marina, near the head of Mobile Bay.
On Day 11 we went 47 nautical miles, for a trip total of 629 miles.
